There are great mobility assistance products available for you including a wheelchair for handicapped Kansas City dogs! One product I found out about recently is a dog wheelchair. Even though your lovable dog may have problems getting around, you can help your pet with the amazing easily adjustable dog wheelchair, “Walkin’ Wheels”.

This lightweight dog wheelchair is made of aluminum and sent to you fully assembled. You can easily adjust it for just the right fit for your dog. It was designed to help animals with hip and leg problems as well as neurological problems and surgical recovery.

The manufacturers have thought of just about everything. There are 2 different sized wheelchairs. There is a “mini”, for dogs under 20 pounds; and a larger size for dogs up to 180 pounds. You can also have a custom -made dog wheelchair built for pets that weigh less than 6 pounds, dogs over 180 pounds, 4 wheeled carts for 20 pounds and under, and front limb support carts.

The original builder and designer of Walkin’ Wheels patented his idea in August of 2008. He has worked to build the best possible wheelchair to suit any need of a dog needing help with mobility. Some of the great features of the wheelchair are:

It is adjustable, fits all dogs from 20 – 250 pounds
Ships overnight – no customizations needed
Folds flat for easy storage and shipping
Adjusts with no tools needed
Harness system can be used separately as a log lifting sling
No assembly needed
Looks stylish
Dogs can be put in the cart with a few simple clips. No lifting required.
Cart can be adjusted as pet’s health changes

You might be thinking, “Do I need a wheelchair for my dog?”

Paralyzed Dog Kansas City: The most obvious candidate for a dog wheelchair is an animal that can get around by dragging his back end behind him. These dogs, due to paralysis, injury, or disease are otherwise healthy, but have no feeling or control of their back end. The fact that they are able to drag themselves along with their front legs indicates that they are strong enough to be nearly completely mobile in a rear wheel wheelchair.

Weakness: Older dogs and animals with arthritis, muscle soreness, and in the beginning stages of degenerative disease can use a wheelchair when they get tired. The wheelchair can be taken with you on a walk, and can be put on the dog at the first signs of tiredness.

Three Legged Dogs: Tripods are not usually considered “handicapped pets” because they can run and play and be as active as 4 legged dogs. Once they get used to the loss of their leg, they can often compensate up to nearly 100%. It is critically important, with a three-legged dog that the remaining leg be cared for with a great deal of vigilance; should this leg fail, complications can be severe. A three-legged dog should be put in a wheelchair when he gets tired, or while recuperating if there is a mild injury on the remaining leg.

Rehabilitation: After surgery or during recovery of any kind, it is often important to keep weight off the dog’s legs, back, or other areas. In many cases, this requirement can cause the dog to be kept in a crate for weeks or months. The loss of activity and muscle-tone can cause complications. Using a wheelchair during rehabilitation can give the dog exercise he needs to support the healing process and keep him healthy during recovery.

So, if you need a wheelchair for handicapped Kansas City dogs, the best place that I know of to get one is from HandicappedPets.com .

Have you ever wondered if the Kansas City veterinary hospital or clinic that you might take your pet to for emergency care is one the best in the area? We pet owners only want the best care for our pets, right? Since we love them, the answer will always be a yes!

Any excellent veterinary hospital has to be inspected before being accredited by the AAHA.

Nearly 3,200 veterinary hospitals worldwide are included in the American Animal Hospital Association, (AAHA) evaluation program. Inspectors regularly visit these emergency vet hospitals and clinics. They ensure that the hospitals and clinics meet AAHA’s strict standards for vet services and facilities.

“AAHA is the only organization that certifies animal hospitals or animal clinics throughout the U.S. and Canada. AAHA accredited veterinary hospitals actually choose to be evaluated on 900 requirements. the checks are made in the following areas: quality of care; diagnostic and pharmacy; facility management; pet medical records; and facility maintenance.

Why do veterinary hospital quality standards matter to you?

Here are a few examples of how AAHA’s standards concern you and your pet’s emergency and critical care.

Pet vet hospitals or clinics are required to provide diagnostic services (x-ray and lab) to ensure they can quickly and accurately diagnose your pet.

The requirements focus on the quality of care in the areas of: anesthesia, contagious diseases, dentistry, pain management, patient care, surgery and emergency care.

Accredited animal hospitals have an onsite pharmacy, so they can begin emergency care immediately.

AAHA standards require that medical records cover as much as possible that is known about your pet’s health history. The information must be accurate.

The standards developed and published by AAHA are widely accepted as being the best vet emergency practices known about high quality care. These mandatory guidelines are reviewed and updated to ensure that they remain up-to-date with the newest knowledge and technology. “ From – Healthypet.com

Thanks very much for sharing your concern for pet care in our area!
